Waste Recovery Facilities

We continue to monitor the Province’s guidelines to ensure ERSB is doing it’s part to protect the public. We are happy to inform you that we will reopen the remainder of the Waste Recovery Facilities as of Tuesday March 16th, 2021.

The Clarenville Waste Recovery Facility was has resumed normal operating hours as of Thursday, March 4th.

Waste Recovery Facilities located on the Avalon Peninsula will reopen on Tuesday March 16th. This applies to the Bay Bulls, Bell Island, Cavendish, Old Perlican, Harbour Grace, Placentia, Renews-Cappahayden, St. Joseph’s, Clarenville and Whitbourne Waste Recovery Facilities. All provincial guidelines will be in place to ensure staff, and public safety.

Our terms of use

  • A limit of 16 visits will be permitted to any facility in a calendar year
  • Gates will be closed 15 minutes before the facility closes
  • ATVs and double axle trailers will not be granted access to waste recovery facilities
  • Material must be separated onsite and offloaded by hand
  • Commercial vehicles will not be permitted onsite
  • Commercial waste will not be accepted
  • Site visitors are asked to adhere to our respectful workplace program at our facilities. Click for details.

Social distancing measures

  • Maintain a safe physical distance of 2 m (6 ft) from staff and other visitors
  • If you are feeling unwell, stay home
  • Limit of 2 vehicles allowed on site at a time
  • Maximum of 2 persons per vehicle allowed on site
  • Pre-sort materials so they may be offloaded in 10 minutes or less
  • Anticipate line-ups and delays—please be patient and remain in your vehicle

All bagged waste must be in clear (transparent) bags. This is to reduce risk to our employees by minimizing contact with waste materials. Waste in dark (non-transparent) garbage bags will not be permitted on site. Blue transparent bags are not acceptable as they are for recycling only.

To ensure the safety of all site staff and visitors, facilities will close Saturdays between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to allow for additional cleaning practices.

  • Furniture
  • Mattresses
  • Appliances
  • Scrap metal
  • Electronics (excludes Harbour Grace and Cavendish facilities)
  • ATV tires
  • Tires: highway, passenger, light truck, and motorcycle (rims removed)
  • Propane tanks and oil tanks (drained and cleaned)
  • Construction and demolition waste
  • Shingles

We will not take anything that is recyclable or materials that decompose, including cardboard, clothing, food items, leaves, grass clippings, concrete, hazardous waste, liquids, and fish nets.

Wood chips may be available to the public at some of the sites for pick up free of charge—supply is limited and will vary by site. Contact us for more information.

*Effective December 14, 2020 the Sunnyside Waste Recovery Facility will be closed and will reopen on April 3, 2021.

All residents in the Eastern Region can also use the residential drop-off at Robin Hood Bay.

Commercial Waste
