Clean and Healthy Communities

We all have a role to play in keeping our communities clean and healthy. That’s why we are proud to support volunteer groups who wish to organize cleanup initiatives in communities across eastern Newfoundland.

If you would like to host a community clean-up event, we will provide access to disposal services at one of our Waste Recovery Facilities free of charge.

Event Terms and Conditions

It is the responsibility of the event supervisor to ensure that the community and volunteers are in compliance with the event terms and conditions. It is each driver's responsibility to ensure that they are compliant with the Highway Traffic Act—all loads must be covered.

  • Only one event per community will be eligible in a calendar year. We recommend that volunteer organizations from the same community coordinate an event for the same day.
  • Eligible events include clean-up of public spaces such as parks, ditches, green space, beaches, etc., in the communities we service.
  • There is a maximum of 10 tonnes or 20 pickup loads per event.
  • Food waste, commercial waste, household hazardous waste, special waste, regulated waste, liquid waste, or fish nets will NOT be accepted as part of this program.
  • Vehicle(s) from your clean-up event must wait for direction from the site attendant at the waste recovery facility regarding proper disposal of the waste.
  • Waste must be dropped off during regular hours of operation and must be dropped off on the scheduled day. There will be no extension of hours of operation.
  • Event volunteers will be required to offload material by hand and may be requested to deliver material to several locations within the waste recovery facility. For example, general debris is placed in a different location than metals.
  • No access will be provided to double-axle vehicles including trailers.
  • ERSB reserves the right to refuse access to vehicles that are deemed to be in violation of these terms or are attempting to dispose of waste that did not come from a clean-up event.
