Clean and Healthy Communities

Community Clean-up Program

We all have a role to play in keeping our communities clean and healthy. The Eastern Regional Service Board (ERSB) is proud to support volunteer groups organizing community clean-ups across eastern Newfoundland.

If you are planning a clean-up event in 2026, we will provide free disposal services at a Waste Recovery Facility, along with basic supplies to help you get started.

How It Works:

Getting involved is simple:

  1. Plan your clean-up event
  2. Register at least seven (7) business days in advance
  3. Collect litter and debris from public spaces
  4. Drop off materials, as scheduled at the designated facility

Each registered group will receive:

  • 100 clear garbage bags
  • A box of disposable gloves

This program supports clean-ups of public spaces, including:

  • Parks
  • Roadsides and ditches
  • Beaches
  • Trails and green spaces

Each community may host one (1) clean-up event per year, with a limit of 20 pickup truck loads per event.

We recommend that interested individuals and groups team up and coordinate with your community.

Important Guidelines:

  • Only litter and debris from public clean-ups are accepted
  • Waste must be dropped off on your scheduled day during facility hours
  • All materials must be unloaded by hand and sorted if required
  • Loads must be covered and comply with highway safety regulations

Materials not accepted:

  • Household garbage or recyclables
  • Commercial or business waste
  • Hazardous, regulated, or liquid waste
  • Fishing gear
