The Eastern Regional Service Board was created by the province to deliver regional municipal services. We were established under the legislative authority of the Regional Service Board Act in 2012 and follow the Eastern Regional Service Board Regulations.

Our Main Lines of Business

You may have known us as Eastern Waste

Prior to becoming the Eastern Regional Service Board, we operated as Eastern Waste. In 2009, we were given a mandate to implement the Provincial Waste Management Strategy throughout communities in the Eastern Region of Newfoundland and Labrador.

This work included three core goals:

  1. Advance the implementation of modern waste management practices.
  2. Divert materials from disposal in the landfill.
  3. Close the 42 community landfills that operated in the region.

As Eastern Regional Service Board, we continue to deliver on this important mandate and bring quality services to 163 communities and 270,000 people in the region. We have expanded our suite of waste services, providing curbside garbage collection, curbside recycling, bulk item pick-up to more than 30,000 households in the region.

A review of the strategy was completed in 2019.
