Site Upgrades Scheduled for Bay Bulls Waste Recovery Facility
The Eastern Regional Service Board (the Board) is excited to announce that Harbour Construction will be completing substantial upgrades to the Bay Bulls Waste Recovery Facility from June 24 to July 8. The facility will be closed to the public during this period.
At the regular monthly Board meeting on May 21, the Board awarded the contract for this work in the amount of $84,164. The Bay Bulls Waste Recovery Facility is the second facility to receive this planned upgrade with the facility in Placentia receiving a similar redevelopment in 2023.
The facility in Bay Bulls is one of the Board’s busiest sites with 4,573 total visits in 2024. The work to be completed by Harbour Construction will redesign the layout of the site and make it much more efficient for residents to drop off material.
The site updates will also make it much more effective for staff to collect the bulk material using the Board’s grapple-equipped trucks. The Board will keep a close eye on the lasting impacts of the new upgrades and anticipates making similar changes to the remaining facilities in the coming years as needed.
The Board appreciates the public’s understanding and cooperation as these upgrades are carried out. During this temporary closure, residents may access either the Renews- Cappahayden Waste Recovery Facility, or the Residential Drop-Off (RDO) at Robin Hood Bay.
Quote:
“Since opening in 2013, the facility at Bay Bulls has benefited from over a decade of operational
experience, resulting in improvements that enhance safety, efficiency, and long-term maintenance.
We look forward to continuing to build on this success to ensure that our waste recovery facilities
remain a reliable and well-managed resource for the communities we serve.”
