Eastern Regional Service Board Recognizes Value of Regional Collaboration

St. John’s — The Eastern Regional Service Board (Board) is very encouraged by today’s announcement

from the Honourable Krista Lynn Howell, Minister of Municipal and Provincial Affairs, outlining the

next steps in government’s regionalization approach. The announcement sheds light into government’s

plan to advance community sustainability and viability through regional collaboration and the

sharing of services.

The Board would like to thank Minister Howell for her commitment to advance regionalization forward

for the benefit of everyone in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Eastern Regional

Service Board would also like to thank Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador (MNL) and the

Professional Municipal Administrators (PMA) for their work and dedication to the promotion of

regionalization through the Regionalization Joint Working Group report.

The Eastern Regional Service Board and staff look forward to working with all stakeholders to

identify and address service gaps in communities across the region. A regional approach to service

delivery will improve efficiencies and help make service delivery more consistent. As part of their

current mandate, the Board delivers quality municipal services, including waste management, fire

and emergency, and water and wastewater services to over one hundred communities and 30,000

households in the Eastern Region of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Quotes

“The Eastern Regional Service Board represents the largest population of all Regional Service

Boards in the Province and is comprised of Municipal leaders representing communities from all

corners of the Eastern Region of Newfoundland and Labrador. Board members know that now is the time

for everyone to come together to build on the positive momentum created by the announcement from

Minister Howell. The focus on regional service collaboration and a review of the 2012 Regional

Service Board Act will help facilitate a renewed role for the Board and improve access for our

communities, our region, and our province to improve everyone’s quality of life.”

Steve Tessier, Chair, Eastern Regional Service Board

“As the Chief Administrative Officer for the Eastern Regional Service Board, I look forward

to the next steps in advancing collaboration and service sharing among our communities. I am

excited to be part of this initiative that will lead to more resilient and sustainable communities

that provide residents with the services they need.”
