SITE ATTENDANT POSITION - Harbour Grace
Eastern Regional Service Board currently has an opportunity for a Site Attendant based out of Harbour Grace. This position will perform labour and customer service duties at the Harbour Grace Waste Recovery Facility as outlined below.
HOURS OF WORK: Sixteen (16) hours each week (Tuesdays and Thursdays 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. and Saturdays 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) Lunch from 11:30 - 12:30 or as required by the employer.
DUTIES: The daily requirements of the Site Attendant are presented below. Please note that this is not intended to be a complete and final list of duties and may be adjusted as site operations require: Display a positive attitude towards the operations of the facility and interact with all users in a friendly and respectful manner. Answer questions from users concerning recycling, regional activities and provincial strategy. Please direct calls to Eastern Regional Service Board at (709) 579-7960. Perform all work in accordance with Workplace Health Safety and Compensation Commissions’ (Workplace NL) regulations and the Departments of Environment, Climate Change and Municipalities and Service NL regulations, guidelines, and Certificates of Approval. Maintain the cleanliness and tidy appearance of the site and be proactive with maintenance. Inspect all materials entering the facility and ensure that the users of the site are aware of the accepted and non-accepted materials. Document the identity and required information for each individual user of the facility and keep a daily log of activities at the site. Ensure only eligible users have access to the facility. Ensure only acceptable waste is allowed to be deposited at the facility. Direct and monitor the accurate depositing of all additional waste in to the appropriate area of the facility. Inspect the deposited waste for compliance and correct the misplacement as not to negatively affect the operations of the facility. Collect any and all of the wind-blown waste from within and around the site. Maintain all on-site signs that are providing direction and information and ensure that are visible and in good repair, identify the requirements to replace missing or damaged signs. Provide general assistance to users of the facility on the proper use of the site and act as one avenue for the communications between Eastern Regional Service Board and the users of the facility. Keep the site free of scavengers by informing them of the NO SCAVENGING policy and direct them to leave the site, documenting scavengers' activities, record vehicle license plate numbers, and passing on the collected information to Eastern Regional Service Board. Additional duties as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Ability to understand oral and written instructions.Knowledge of applicable provincial and federal codes, regulations and laws.Knowledge of work practices and methods applicable to a waste management setting.Knowledge of Eastern Regional Service Board policies.Knowledge of OH&S policies and regulations.Must be physically fit. Medical may be required.

RATE OF PAY: $20.55 per hour plus 4% vacation pay (paid each pay day).

HTEO Position Available - Whitbourne Area
Eastern Regional Service Board (ERSB) has been established by the province to plan and operate the regional waste management system for residential and commercial users across the Eastern Region.ERSB is currently accepting applications for a Highway Transport Equipment Operator.
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. The Highway Transport Equipment Operator (HTEO) is responsible for the operation of the Board’s heavy equipment in a modern waste management system. A second aspect of the work is the provision of minor repairs and standard maintenance procedures to ensure that all systems are working, all fluid levels are within specification and that various parts, such as tires are still within safety, service or legal limits. In addition, the operator is expected to remove or install, or assist therein, various pieces of equipment or accessories as required.
2. Provides safe and effective operation of heavy equipment in a timely, safe and efficient manner.
3. Provides minor repair and preventative maintenance on any equipment operated by the Board by checking and/or correcting all fluid levels, checking and correcting tire pressures, checking grease fittings and making sure there is adequate lubrication at all points, checking for proper torqueing of all attachment mounting bolts and ensuring that all safety and fail-safe mechanisms are in good operating condition.
4. Cleans heavy equipment as scheduled and/or required and ensures that the equipment is safely and securely stored.
5. Maintains contact with other staff and periodically must interact with any service facility providing maintenance to equipment.
6. Provides emergency roadside repairs as required and if practicable, assist in repairs effected at theBoard’s premises and in the installation and removal of attachments or accessories as required.
7. Participates in the Board’s Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) events.
8. Maintains contact and communication with the office and/or immediate supervisor by use of UHF radio and/or telephone as required, by operating such equipment in the manner prescribed by the Highway Traffic Act and the Board.
9. Maintains and provides up-to-date, accurate records of vehicle/equipment service and maintenance by completing, as required, all daily or other periodic reports on operation, condition, maintenance or service. Maintains inventory.
10. Provides up-to-date, accurate and reliable information on any accidents involving equipment/vehicles by submitting verbal and written reports, in the time frame and manner prescribed, on any such accidents.
11. Ensures the efficiency of the Board’s operations by assisting with or performing any other duties for which the incumbent is deemed competent.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

3. Knowledge of work practices and methods applicable to a waste management setting.
4. Knowledge of the Board’s policies.
5. Knowledge of OH&S policies and regulations.
6. Skill in establishing and maintaining working relationships with staff and contractors.
7. Knowledge of purchasing procedures.
8. Must be physically fit and employee will require a standard medical.
9. Transportation of Dangerous Goods and other workplace certificates would be considered an asset.
Compensation: $ 65,451 annually.
